Confirmation

Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds. The Catechism of the Catholic Church #1316

At OLOW we celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation generally in the spring of grade 9. Registration for the preparation process occurs during the spring of grade 7.

The date to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation varies each year due to the need to coordinate the schedule with the Archdiocese of Detroit.

We begin a three year preparation process beginning in grade 6 and continuing through grade 9. In addition to the class room setting there are formation sessions designated for the candidates, parents and sponsors.

All candidates are interviewed by the director of religious education and attend an overnight retreat. The retreat is an opportunity for our Confirmation candidates to spend time away from their everyday routine. They are able to look at themselves and their relationship with God in both a fun and serious manner. It is a time to reflect on the step they are about to take, and a time to eat, laugh and play together. The candidates come together for individual confessions and to celebrate Mass as a parish community.

All questions about Confirmation of children, or adults, should be directed to Claudette Wagner, Director of Religious Education by email cwagner@olow.org  or phone (734) 671-5101 x113.
